BDM in the spotlight: Robyn Lindemann

This Gateway Credit Union BDM from Victoria juggled three jobs while raising three children before her time in the industry.

Before her 20+ years in the industry, Gateway Credit Union BDM for Victoria, Robyn Lindemann, raised her three children while working three jobs in a bank, a TattsLotto agency and a bar before her BDM days.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
It can vary however on average I’d make 12 to 15 broker visits a week.

What do brokers want most from you?
Brokers want me to return their calls and emails in a respectable time frame, which is a given for me. Brokers also want me to help them by going in to bat for them when it’s needed and it really counts.

What is your favourite part of the job?
It’s hard to say as I love my job, but helping brokers to achieve their client’s dreams gives me the greatest sense of reward. I also get a great high when I’m able to get a challenging deal over the line and when I’m mentoring and sharing my knowledge with brokers who are new to the industry.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
The best brokers truly understand and ‘get’ their client’s financial dreams. They have the insight to look at their bigger and long-term picture, rather than just their application today. Having the ability to provide a structure/loan that will help their client achieve their dreams is a differentiator.

Describe your ideal weekend.
My perfect weekend is catching up with my family and friends; they mean the world to me, and finding time to work on our renovations and having some R&R with my hubby. Lots of other things come to mind too, however with six kids, their partners and to date seven grand children, my weekends are very hectic and I always have something happening.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
It was more funny than strange, but when I was a bank branch manager in country Victoria I had a young lady come in for a loan to purchase her first home. She didn’t have any money in the bank and wanted to borrow only 80%. I asked her where she was going to get the rest of the funds from and she replied saying her dad was literally going to the market on the weekend to sell her six cows. Must have been nice cows!

How do you like your steak done?
Medium and tender with oozing garlic butter, though only on a weekend so I’m not breathing garlic breath over my brokers.
