NAB Broker BDM for NSW Kelly Tietjen has been in the industry for 15 years.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
It varies so much. 2 -3 a day is ideal however I don’t like to be flat out on the road if my brokers that have deals in the system need my help. You need to sometimes roll up your sleeves and remember retention is as important as acquisition. Likewise I see a benefit in educating brokers through workshops which would cater to 20 – 40 brokers that week.

What do brokers want most from you?
Be honest and reliable

What is your favourite part of the job?
Using my years of knowledge to add value to a brokers business and make them look good in front of their clients

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Certainly the best brokers I deal with are by far the most organised ones and have adequate staffing to assist with their volumes to not miss a beat.

Describe your ideal weekend.
My ideal weekend would be spending time down at the beach swimming and playing in the sand with my young family and friends.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
I found it odd to receive an application for 93yr First Home Buyer. We couldn’t assist - fyi

How do you like your steak done?
Medium rare
