BDM in the spotlight: Janita De Paoli

This week's Bank of Melbourne BDM won the 2015 AMA Best Non-Major Bank BDM.

Bank of Melbourne BDM Janita De Paoli has been in the industry six years and won the 2015 AMA Best Non-Major Bank BDM.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

What you did before entering the industry:
Before I started in finance I worked in transport and long haul for our family owned and operated business. I managed the office and accounting side of the business.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
In a normal week I spend 50% of time in face to face appointments and networking events and the rest of the time assisting brokers via phone and email.

What do brokers want most from you?
Support and assistance in workshopping deals, pricing and winning new business.

What is your favourite part of the job?
Having brokers advocate for you and tell other brokers to deal with you directly because you are one of their best BDM’s. It gives you a real sense of achievement.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
I believe what makes a good broker is those that sell on service, make an effort to know bank policy and process, have a great referral basis and can manage a client to realistic time lines.

Describe your ideal weekend
My ideal weekend would be chilling back home on the farm overlooking the vineyard and sipping on a scotch on ice with Dad and the family.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
I cannot say one stands out to me as strange. However I did have one where the client wanted to move his family to live by the river and wanted to transport the current family home.

How do you like your steak done?
I love a medium to rare steak.

Every Wednesday we’ll feature a different BDM from across Australia. If you’d like to be included, please email the editor.
