BDM in the spotlight: Liam Paitson

This week's BDM from Brisbane worked in finance and accounting for leagues clubs before joining Pepper.

Pepper Asset Finance BDM for Queensland, Liam Paitson, spent three years travelling before his eight years in the industry.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
I spend about 3-4 days on the road. I try and see as many brokers as I can.

What do brokers want most from you?
They want me to be available, be able to provide them with a solution and they want it in an acceptable time frame.

What is your favourite part of the job?
Helping others. I love providing a solution and helping brokers. If I can help them grow their business then I am happy with myself. I also love the flexibility of being a BDM. I work from many different locations, I interact with different people every day and in the end this makes me successful.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Service. I find my high performance brokers all have the same approach to customer service. They offer excellent service and they go above and beyond to exceed their customer’s expectations. This results in repeat business from their customers along with the all-important referral.

Describe your ideal weekend:
I am a massive rugby union fan so my ideal weekend is watching the rugby with family and friends.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
As I work in Asset Finance we don’t really see many scenarios that are strange. I did once get asked to fund $50m to a client so he could start up an online betting company when the client had no experience or anything to input into the proposed business.

How do you like your steak done?
Only one way to eat steak and that’s rare to blue.

Every Wednesday we’ll feature a different BDM from across Australia. If you’d like to be included, please email the editor.
