Australian First Mortgage BDM for Sydney, Jonathan Reyes has spent three years in the industry.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
While a lot of work can be conducted today over the phone or by email, I believe it’s important to remain physically visible with our brokers. I enjoy face-to-face interaction so I tend to schedule meetings even at times when they are not strictly necessary as I believe it helps to build rapport and assists me to better understand the broker’s business and their needs.

What do brokers want most from you?
To be highly responsive and to quickly understand their needs so I can help them get the job done for their clients.

What is your favourite part of the job?
Learning about a broker’s business and how they operate so I can better help them find solutions for their clients.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Brokers who are prepared to go above and beyond for their client and have structured processes and a well-rounded back office team in place to ensure the loan process runs smoothly, from application to settlement.

Describe your ideal weekend:
Engaging in different outdoor activities, be it hiking, swimming, workouts or expanding my social network.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
While there have been many unusual scenarios come across my desk, one that stands out is from a broker where their client wanted to purchase a 2.2ha property in a rural area, which had a dog day care centre in the backyard.

How do you like your steak done?
Medium-rare.
