What did you do before entering the industry?

While studying, I got my first taste of the industry working for a conveyancer and mortgage broker. After graduating from Monash University in commerce, I worked at a consumer lender in various roles including credit and sales. I’ve just recently celebrated one year now at MoneyPlace! Time flies when you are enjoying yourself and passionate about your job.

How often do you see mortgage brokers in a week?

Usually I would see a minimum of 15 finance brokers per week. At MoneyPlace and working as a personal loan BDM, I work with all types of brokers whether they are a mortgage, commercial or asset broker. I assist them with diversification opportunities and how they can leverage personal loans by converting their core business to enable better outcomes for their clients.

What do mortgage brokers want most from you?

Brokers want prompt responses, honesty if a deal is going to work or not and assistance with quality submissions. Full transparency saves everyone time.

Brokers also want to learn about how they can use personal loans to convert their core business and diversify their income stream.

What is your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of the job is building relationships with my business partners, helping them with structuring their deals, providing support and a solution to their clients’ needs. I love presenting the MoneyPlace proposition in an animated way and showing my brokers the many ways that we can help put their clients in a better position.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?

The best brokers are those who are passionate about their business and helping their clients meet their objectives. The best brokers have exceptional product knowledge and are focused on quality submissions.

What’s your ideal weekend?

My ideal weekend is spending time with my three-year-old Cavoodle Snoops, trying new restaurants, catching up with friends, going to a roof top bar on a warm summer night and playing video games. With lockdown my weekends are looking a bit different, to which I’ve recently started playing the ukulele and guitar again. The dog is also loving the extra walks and we’ve just discovered how close we live to a farm even though we only live 4km from the CBD.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?

Being in the personal loan space we see a lot of different scenarios due to a wide range of loan purposes. The strangest one and one which was most rewarding was helping a broker assist their client with their property settlement. Due to COVID, the valuation on their property came dramatically short. They delayed settlement three times and were unable to find a solution. MoneyPlace was able to help with the shortfall in funds to get them into their home.

What's your top time-saving tip and how much time does it save you?

Writing a list of actions and things to do the night before and preparing. The best thing is crossing this off your list and feeling accomplished when you see what you’ve done upon reflection.

What’s your favourite meal?

My favourite meal to go out and eat would be Korean BBQ and playing Korean drinking games as it’s a great social activity. Otherwise if I was to cook at home, I enjoy cooking Pho aka Vietnamese noodle soup (it takes at least six hours to make the broth).
