BDM in the spotlight: Stuart Moore

This week's ING Direct BDM came from a background in IT recruitment, sales and support before joining the industry.

NSW BDM for ING Direct,  has clocked up 13 years in the industry.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
I am on the road every day and see 20-25 brokers each week.

What do brokers want most from you?

Timely, knowledgeable responses are important, along with real support when needed. A good BDM is able to give insights on the industry and market in general, not just product info. My brokers know that I will always respond with an honest answer, even if that is not the answer they would like to hear.
What is your favourite part of the job?
For me it’s the relationships that you build over time with brokers and others in the industry. I love helping brokers grow their businesses and seeing their results improve, which is more than just increasing their settlements with ING DIRECT. I have a number of brokers that I have referred my own personal business to as well as close friends and family. Having that level of trust is very rewarding.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Being passionate about the job and recognising that the customer is the key asset. I also think keeping a level head, particularly when the pressure is on is important, and goes a long way to gaining support and respect for a long term relationship.

Describe your ideal weekend:
Weekends are all about family, so spending time with my wife and daughters is the key. Perhaps kayaking on the lake and then a BBQ lunch, followed by a lazy afternoon. If very lucky, I send the girls off for a sleep over and have a ‘grown ups’ dinner and a movie/date night.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
There have been quite a few, but my strangest would have to be a scenario where an applicant wanted to use their caravan, bike and other possessions as security to buy a block of land to put the caravan on.

How do you like your steak done?
Medium rare, but not still moving!
