La Trobe Financial BDM for QLD talks turning opportunities into sealed deals.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

This week, we hear from QLD BDM Nicole Waugh. Starting out with AVCO Finance, she moved to print advertising before returning to finance and after 19 years in the industry has spent 13 of them at La Trobe Financial.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
The number of brokers I visit in a week will vary depending on the needs of my brokers. At La Trobe Financial it’s not about seeing a set number of brokers – it’s about providing the highest quality service we can – which may be in a broker’s office, over the phone or via email. We are responsive in every format.

What do brokers want most from you?
Brokers want me to turn an opportunity into a deal. They want me to know our policy, know the flexibilities in our products and be able to suggest the best way to package a deal for submission, and my 10 years of credit experience has played an enormous part in delivering successful outcomes. Brokers are looking for a BDM partner who can help grow their business and who is genuinely invested in that relationship.

What is your favourite part of the job?
A broker recently told me that his client thought he was a “legend” after their La Trobe Financial loan settled – what could be better than hearing that! We provided a solution that changed someone’s life.  I feel that I am really helping people improve their financial position.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
The best brokers recognise that they should never turn away a potential client until they have called me. They recognise that opportunities lie outside the normal lending channels and see the potential in every deal when working with La Trobe Financial.

Describe your ideal weekend
I like to spend time with my family, go for a run or swim some laps.  I also don’t mind a good book and some chocolate – we live such busy lives it’s nice to just relax!

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
I could probably fill a novel with the strange and wonderful lending scenarios we get. More importantly it’s amazing how many of those strange deals settle.  I get a lot of calls that start with “have I got a deal for you!”

How do you like your steak done?
Can I say I prefer chicken! I don’t eat a lot of steak but if I do it’s medium to well done.
