BDM in the spotlight: Kelvin Tan

With just 6 months in the industry, this Heritage Bank BDM can already spot the recurring qualities found in the best brokers.

Heritage Bank BDM for WA, Kelvin Tan spent most of his career in banking and finance, with a focus on business banking.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
As many times as they would like to see me, bring it on!!!

What do brokers want most from you?
This is a hard one, mainly they want someone they can talk to and give a straight answer, someone who will bat for them and help them see their deals through.  Know of anyone like that ? (Hint... Heritage Bank)

What is your favourite part of the job?
The networking, the interaction and the intense discussions.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Honesty, ethics, responsible, integrity, tenacity , ability, good sense of  humour, entrepreneurial (oops, did I just spell Heritage again....)

Describe your ideal weekend?
A nice beach with a fishing rod in one hand and fish at the end of the line. Yes, I am that simple.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
I wish I had a great story! Seriously the brokers are very switched on and there has not been anything too strange.

How do you like your steak done?
Steak oh steak, I’m actually a cheeseburger guy but when I do have steaks, medium rare with no sauce is my preference.

Every Wednesday we’ll feature a different BDM from across Australia. If you’d like to be included, please email the editor.
