BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDMs in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
Most days, I have about 10-12 appointments per week.

What do brokers want most from you?
To return phone calls and emails in a timely manner and give them the information they need.

What is your favourite part of the job?
Having a win, getting those quirky or tough applications over the line. Working for a mortgage manager, we tend to get many different scenarios thrown at us but with our vast array of products it means we have something to suit most clients.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
I believe the most successful brokers have the clients best interests at heart. They have the ‘client for life’ attitude and don’t just think of it as a one off transaction. They provide a solution, not just an interest rate. I think you have to be a good sales person, a good networker, not afraid to talk to people to get referrals and be able to ask for business - very much like a BDM.

Describe your ideal weekend:
Spending time with my husband, son, family and friends. Relaxing, reading the paper, and enjoying a bottle of red, or two!

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
Having worked in the specialist lending space and now as a mortgage manager for four years, most scenarios seem to have something a little outside the box whether it is credit impaired, ATO debt, low doc etc. Not sure if there is such a thing as a vanilla application these days!

How do you like your steak done?
Rare with peppercorn sauce and a glass of red, or two (of course!).
